NorthPoint Astrology Journal Your Guide to Planetary Energies for January 7 to 13, 2013 by Pam Younghans

OUR SECOND WEEK of the new year begins with a bit of a reality check. Saturn squares Mars on Monday, a reminder that our goals must not only come from a place of truth and integrity, they must also take into account that we cannot control -- or predict or perhaps even understand -- the desires and actions that others may choose.

This can be a irritating influence, as most square aspects tend to be. We may feel that our desires are at cross-purposes with someone else's, and that our goals are not manifesting as easily or smoothly as hoped. It may be a challenge to keep our own anger in check in the face of obstacles that arise. But, the ultimate lesson of these frustrations is to find or build new levels of patience, discipline and inner strength amidst the uncertainties and unpredictables of life.

It may help to imagine ourselves, just for the day, to be wearing the shoes of someone whose patience and perspective we highly respect. That may assist us in finding those same qualities within ourselves more readily -- we may even surprise ourselves at how much like that admired person we have the potential to be.

VENUS ENTERS CAPRICORN on Tuesday, setting up some interesting relationship or financial developments over the week that follows, as Venus first sextiles Neptune (Wednesday), squares Uranus (Saturday) and finally aligns with Pluto (January 16).

Venus in Capricorn is typically serious, conservative and relatively goal-oriented about its commitments and investments. It can also tend to be a bit unemotional or overly practical.

In sextile to Neptune, however, some of those qualities are softened a bit. A sextile is not a very strong aspect, but this one should assist us in opening our hearts to another person, and in forgiving both ourselves and others as needed.

THE EFFECTS of Saturday's Venus-Uranus square are a bit less soothing. This is an aspect that reminds us how unique each of us is, and how important it is to accept and allow space for the differences between us.

If a partnership has become stagnant, is limiting its participants in their self-expression, or is in need of a wake-up call, this Venus-Uranus aspect can inspire the necessary change. One or both parties may use this square to rebel against (written or unwritten) relationship rules if they have been following them out of "should" rather than "want." At the very least, this is a good day for everyone to give each other the space to do their own thing, to defuse built-up tensions and infuse the relationship with a breath of fresh air.

Then, as we begin to work with the energies of the Pluto-Venus conjunction next week, we will know more clearly what type of transformation is underway. If the relationship is capable of deepening, the issues that have arisen can provide fertile ground for greater honesty and intimacy. Or, if the relationship is not able to handle the different needs expressed by the people involved, this Pluto-Venus alignment can also provide the energy to change the form of the relationship.

WE ALSO HAVE a New Moon this Friday, at 11:44am PST. The Sabian symbol for the 22nd degree of Capricorn, where the New Moon is located, is especially interesting given the relationship themes we're working with this week:
"By accepting defeat gracefully, a general reveals nobility of character: The realization that one may grow through defeat as well as, and perhaps more than, through success."
It is common for humans to feel that we have "failed" when a relationship or other enterprise ends. We tend to gauge success by length of commitment or other tangible, quantifiable measurements.

AND YET, how many seeming "failures" -- a job lost, a divorce, a business enterprise or other project that never gained a strong foundation -- have actually been the biggest successes of our lives, from our Soul's perspective? My guess is many, if not most (or all?)...

The interpretation of that Sabian symbol, by Dane Rudhyar, adds a bit more clarity:
"This symbol presents us with the possibility of turning apparent external defeat into an inner spiritual achievement. We find what seems to be a paradox, but the spiritual life is always paradoxical. What matters most is always Inner Strength."
Since Friday's lunation is a New Moon, it marks both the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new phase of growth. With Mercury conjunct the Sun/Moon, we have specific opportunities to change our way of thinking about those "successes" and "failures" in our lives, and to rewrite our futures from a more enlightened perspective.

"Everything has two sides...energy reversed...for either polarity and use.
All will come back into Balance ,
and Yes, Goodness will win *:) " ~sierra

On October 5 at 4:54 PM Eastern time the giant planet Saturn enters the sign of Scorpio for the first time in twenty-seven years, ushering in a three-year period with the accent on burning karma. This raises the question: Just what, exactly, is karma, and how does it burn?

Karma usually gets a bad rap. Most of the time when people talk about it they mention "bad" karma. But the idea of good and bad karma results from misunderstanding what karma really is and what it has to offer. For all of us during the next three years as Saturn passes through Scorpio it will be good to get clear about this. For people born between late 1953 and late 1956, and for those born between early 1983 and late 1985, who have Saturn in Scorpio in their birth charts, it's especially good to get clear. More than anyone else, these 27-to-29 year olds and 56-to-59 year olds have the willpower to turn our world around in the coming years, as Saturn returns to the all-powerful land of Scorpio where it was when they were born.

There are three sources of karma: personal, ancestral and collective. Personal karmas result from acts you made, or failed to make, in past lives. Ancestral karma is passed down through your bloodlines. Collective karmas are the challenges new generations of people must face for evolution to take place.

In each case karma provides an anchor for you to ground more deeply into the nature of your existence, and a springboard to spring your optimal destiny on earth. Karma lends your life an underlying theme. It stitches consistency from who you were to who you will be.

Karma is no more good or bad than is physics; it's the underlying law of existence. Acts you took or failed to take in your last life go on vibrating in this life, offering you strong threads of a cosmic tapestry to tighten. Struggles your ancestors faced bubble in your bloodline. Karmic threads necessary for evolution to take place dangle in the collective consciousness. As Saturn passes through Scorpio each of these three branches of karma lights up, stirring you to grasp the loose threads and draw them into a tighter clearer pattern that frees you from bondage to unconscious forces.

The purpose of karmic pattern is to keep drawing you back to root forces you must transform to catapult your awakening. Karmic patterns repeat from life to life and within the course of a single life to get your attention. The moment of awakening in the midst of karmic pattern produces a revelation. Like a mystery story, the clues were there all along but it required some further digging before you could put them together into the revelation.
Until you gain this revelation you often fail to recognize how you yourself create most of your own lifelong patterns. Events and relationships that seemed random, pointless or dysfunctional now take on an underlying consistency of theme.

When you grasp your main underlying karmic themes, the same pressure that used to lock you down to the creaking wood of a giant catapult springs you toward freedom. The same forces that had you bound draw your soul back like an arrow awaiting release. The great paradox of karma is that it's a very unfree way to get free. The very dysfunctional patterns that most trap you are your only chance at freedom! This is the main principle at work in karma -- that when you awaken to your most impossible patterns you're also awakening to the roots of your greatest happiness and well-being.

Deep freedom results when you not only create a change in your external circumstance but even more poignantly, release the roots of the dysfunction that you recreated again and again until you awakened.

People who inherit the hardest karma have the most capacity to awaken. People with less karma have less motivation to awaken. Whether you have a lot or a little, during these next two Make-it-or-Break-it decades of human evolution, we're all being pushed through the karmic wringer to get clear as to who we are and what we're doing, on both local and global levels. This is the underling mechanism of what's making life so intense these days -- human karma is quickening to offer us our greatest chance to awaken.

During the next three years as giant Saturn passes through rigorous Scorpio, karmic lessons will intensify. The good will get better, the bad, worse. This has already begun, but it's going to get more so. As the Lord of Karma plows through the dark lair of the scorpion, each person who awakens from the Trance of Normalcy adds to the force of a collective karmic bulldozer, plowing up the dark underlayer of collective consciousness. Our world, which has been so misguided for so long, gets lit by an underground radiance. Everything not yet right about modern society and everything out of accord in your own life will come back and back and back until you awaken to your role in the grand drama of our time.

Everyone in their late twenties and late fifties is now being pressed into service by the Galactic Command, because we have the Scorpionic power to undermine this false system that has taken over human consciousness like an addictive growth.

With this onslaught of karma comes our greatest chance to awaken. It is a little-known astrological truism that the most loving sign of the zodiac is not Cancer or Libra or Taurus but Scorpio. When Scorpio transmutes karma with the burning love within, it gains the most powerful kind of love that can never again be transgressed. As all of us learn to turn the karmic nightmares of our time to grace, the soul of the world lights up.
Here and now, in the end time of a flailing and dying civilization, poised on the brink of destruction, we turn dysfunction around only to find that we're closer to transformation than ever.

It's true, our world leaders cannot be trusted. It's true that western civilization is dying. The people in charge of our politics, education and media must awaken or get out of the way. Normalcy has become an addictive trance and must be replaced by a rising force of radiant consciousness that lives within each of us. If you let this karmic barrage of Saturn in Scorpio strip away your own obsolete thought forms and dysfunctional patterns during the next three years you will turn the world around with the power of Scorpio, and a new civilization will rise from the ashes of the old.

Astrology Chart for October
Category: ASTROLOGY
Tags: Astrology

♎ LIBRA ~ (Sept. 22 - Oct. 21) Lift off. The planets have been leaning hard on Librans. As of October, one of the most burdensome influences, which made every challenge doubly hard, will move on. Energy will rebound. Morale will lift. Your social life will improve. Plans will move forward. You’ll have to do work on your budgeting, but after what you’ve endured the last few years, that should be a piece of cake. Your life will take off in a promising new direction at some point in the next year

♏ SCORPIO ~ (Oct. 22 - Nov. 20) Slow down. Scorpio is entering a challenging cycle. Deeper, spiritual and psychological aspects of your life will be significantly more rewarding. However, energy levels will most likely drop, compelling you to make more careful choices about how you spend your time. You will have to put any big changes you have been contemplating on hold, too. This is a time when you finally have to make the big decisions you have been putting off. Any relationships that have been holding you back will end.

♐ SAGITTARIUS ~ (Nov. 21 - Dec. 20) Independence of thought. Sagittarians are entering a longish cycle during which they must detach from the opinions and expectations of others. This will allow you to sort through the random ideas and attitudes that have accumulated over the years. Chances are good that your true nature, your greatest and most unique potentials, even your true direction in life, have been obscured, or even lost, under the accumulation. This is something you must do on your own, free from the influence and interference of others.

♑ CAPRICORN ~ (Dec. 21 - Jan. 18) Transcendence. Your ability to make good decisions is tied up with your ego, a warehouse of valuable memories and experiences. Despite what people say about the ego, it works well for Capricorn. Until now. To get through this new, lengthy cycle, you must try new and different approaches that require input and cooperation from many other people. And more idealistic than usual, too. Your talent for making tough, practical choices will be needed, minus your ego. It will pay off handsomely for all concerned.

♒ AQUARIUS ~ (Jan. 19 - Feb. 17) Play it straight. In the coming cycle, Aquarians need to plan carefully despite constant, pervasive change. You’ll also have to exercise as much control over situations as you realistically can. You’ll have to follow the rules closely, and show respect for authority, too. None of the above comes easily to Aquarius. And standards are high. Even a small manipulation or minor evasion can have uncomfortable, negative consequences. Improvisation, experimentation and brainstorming will be unusually productive, as long as you refrain from imposing personal preferences.

♓ PISCES ~ (Feb. 18 - Mar. 19) Speak your truth. During the next couple of years, it will be important to say what you think and find ways to make others accept it, especially authority figures. Or say nothing if that is what you think is right for you. A lot will ride on your ability to do so. If you do, even difficult situations will go well. Conversely, if you cave in to the expectations of others, the planets will cause you a fair amount of grief. Finances remain tight.

♈ ARIES ~ (Mar. 20 - Apr. 18) Say the word. Time’s up. You need to curb current spending now for the sake of future security. You also need to work out better agreements with those who share your life - starting now. But it won’t be as hard as you think. Conditions support these changes. People are becoming sympathetic; they’re half-expecting the changes you need to make. Old agreements can now be renegotiated. It might only take a word to get things moving in the right direction. Delays will improve planning.

♉ TAURUS ~ (Apr. 19 - May 19) Turning a corner. A period of indecision and hesitation will end. Changes in beliefs about yourself and the nature of the world will accelerate, along with changes related to job and health. The direction and timing of these changes will become more definite. But expect the unexpected in relationship areas. Old associations will fade, making way for new ones. New relationships will be deeper and more fulfilling than those now fading, in keeping with the deep, inner changes you are experiencing. Finances remain smooth.

♊ GEMINI ~ (May 20 - June 19) Rethinking work. October brings many rapid and important changes. Entropy and uncertainty and diminish as people move decisively in new directions. Work and other economic relations will be a focal point for a couple of years to come. You’ll need to bring work responsibilities down to a level that you can realistically manage and schedule more quality private time. Much will depend on your ability to successfully revise your job description, for yourself and others. A job change is not out of the question.

♋ CANCER ~ (June 20 - July 21) Fight stagefright. The pressure Cancer has been under will ease significantly. Suspense will lift, too, as events move in clear directions. The challenge for Cancerians over the next couple of years will be to remain clear about your beliefs and needs while staying open to new ideas amidst nonstop change. Don’t be swept along by the currents. You’ll need to be unusually public about your views, too, no easy thing for Cancerians. Especially since you’ll be feeling even more shy and reclusive than usual.

♌ LEO ~ (July 22 - Aug. 21) The home fires. It seems like everybody suddenly made a decision and took off enthusiastically in some new direction, finally. Naturally, Leo will need to be in the midst of the action - sometimes. But your special focus for the next couple of years must be on the home and family, particularly with respect to long-term financial stability and security. Negligence in this regard can have costly consequences. However, even difficult or intractable financial issues will respond well to your efforts during this cycle.

♍ VIRGO ~ (Aug. 22 - Sept. 21) Openings. Virgo’s life is becoming ever more eventful. You can’t avoid the changes sweeping through the world. And you can’t detach like some can. However, the planets are providing a different, special focus. Despite your many other concerns and despite the burdens it would place on you, the planets want you to join with members of your community to solve shared problems. The rewards will be considerable. The financial pressure you’ve been experiencing for a couple of years will ease. Clear-cut opportunities will emerge.
