Today I am going to talk about one Chinese character: "Evil".
Cain was Adam and Eve's first born son. He was evil and he was one of the best examples to help us to understand the meanings of Evil.
From the Book Genesis, we know that Cain was a farmer and his younger brother Abel was a shepherd. God looked with favor on Abel and his offerings. God didn't like Cain and his offerings. Thus, Cain became very angry.
God tried to help Cain with some rationales. However, Cain not only rejected God's help, but also became more angry. With some plot and deception, he seduced his brother to a field, and attacked and kill him, his own brother Abel.
When God asked Cain where his brother was. He lied, " I don't know, Am I my brother's keeper?"
From this tragedy, how many evil things did Cain commit?
Jealousy, anger, disobedience, deception, murder, and lie, just to name a few.
The Chinese character "Evil" is a simple but powerful character. Ancient Chinese must have put lots of thoughts to make this character. It is simple and to the point.
Let us take a look at this character in detail. The upper part means "inferior" or ugly. The second part is "heart". Thus "evil" was defined by ancient Chinese as an inferior /ugly heart.
In the garden of Eden, Satan seduced Eve because was jealous of God and he felt inferior to God. He seduced Eve to eat forbidden fruits and thus the relationship between man and God was broken.
Adam and Eve's elder son "Cain" brutally murdered his own brother Abel because he felt inferior to his own brother regarding their offerings and acceptance to God.
Evil people are evil because they are jealous, sick, and harmful. They are purposely ruining people's relationship, joys, and even their lives. Their hearts are inferior and ugly.
The sad thing is: evil existed before, evil exists at the present, and evil will exist in the future. Evil is everywhere.
The good news is: God will intervene and evil is only temporary.
