Clive Charles Hamilton AM FRSA (born 12 March 1953) is an Australian public intellectual and Professor of Public Ethics at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE) and the Vice-Chancellor's Chair in Public Ethics at Charles Sturt University. He is a member of the Board of the Climate Change Authority of the Australian Government, and is the Founder and former Executive Director of the The Australia Institute. He regularly appears in the Australian media and contributes to public policy debates. Hamilton was granted the award of Member of the Order of Australia on 8 June 2009 for "service to public debate and policy development, particularly in the fields of climate change, sustainability and societal trends".

Remote viewing teacher Ed Dames presented his latest insights and predictions on such subjects as 'Solar Killshot' safe havens, ongoing extraterrestrial intervention, the Fukushima disaster, and war with Iran. We're not going to be hit by just one mega solar flare, but a series of them over time (perhaps over a 1-2 year period), "that's going to turn Earth into a veritable X-ray & proton rotisserie," he said. Locations in the southern hemisphere, such as in Australia and Africa will have few survival zones, though Christchurch, New Zealand is one possible sanctuary, he said. If you aren't in a safe haven, then living underground to avoid the high winds and dark skies, is your best option, he added.

One bright spot is that there will be ET intervention to help us to rebuild after the solar calamity, he shared. In fact, ETs have already intervened to stop WWIII several times, he claimed. Non-terrestrial humans who have a base here on Earth, have generated glowing plasma balls to stop nuclear activity, Dames continued. He also foresees a global pandemic that will be a combination of bird and swine flu, as well as worldwide financial collapse triggered by Japan's economy suddenly failing.

Dames, who previously predicted a large quake in Japan a number of years before the Fukushima incident (view related video), said there will be 50,000-80,000 deaths from cancers associated with the nuclear plant fallout, with children being particularly susceptible. He sees America getting drawn into a war or military activity against Iran, which in turn will cause China to coax North Korea to start a confrontation, while the US is vulnerable.

The technical consultant for the feature film, Suspect Zero, (a Tom Cruise-Paula Wagner production), Ed coached Sir Ben Kingsley, and played the role of an FBI remote viewing instructor in the movie, as well.

A solar flare is a sudden brightening observed over the Sun's surface or the solar limb, which is interpreted as a large energy release of up to 6 × 1025 joules of energy (about a sixth of the total energy output of the Sun each second or 160,000,000,000 megatons of TNT equivalent, over 25,000 times more energy than released from the impact of Comet Shoemaker--Levy 9 with Jupiter). They are mainly followed by a colossal coronal mass ejection also known as a CME. The flare ejects clouds of electrons, ions, and atoms through the corona of the sun into space. These clouds typically reach Earth a day or two after the event. The term is also used to refer to similar phenomena in other stars, where the term stellar flare applies.

Solar flares affect all layers of the solar atmosphere (photosphere, chromosphere, and corona), when the medium plasma is heated to tens of millions of kelvins and electrons, protons, and heavier ions are accelerated to near the speed of light. They produce radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum at all wavelengths, from radio waves to gamma rays, although most of the energy goes to frequencies outside the visual range and for this reason the majority of the flares are not visible to the naked eye and must be observed with special instruments. Flares occur in active regions around sunspots, where intense magnetic fields penetrate the photosphere to link the corona to the solar interior. Flares are powered by the sudden (timescales of minutes to tens of minutes) release of magnetic energy stored in the corona. The same energy releases may produce coronal mass ejections (CME), although the relation between CMEs and flares is still not well established.

Solar flares strongly influence the local space weather in the vicinity of the Earth. They can produce streams of highly energetic particles in the solar wind, known as a solar proton event, or "coronal mass ejection" (CME). These particles can impact the Earth's magnetosphere (see main article at geomagnetic storm), and present radiation hazards to spacecraft, astronauts, and cosmonauts.

Massive solar flares are sometimes associated with CMEs which can trigger geomagnetic storms that have been known to knock out electric power for extended periods of time.

Mayon volcano eruption kills climbers in the Philippines

Five climbers die and several others injured after sudden explosion of 'room-sized' rocks and ash

Five climbers have been killed after one of the Philippines' most active volcanoes rumbled to life, spewing room-sized rocks towards them.

The group of nearly 30 climbers and their Filipino guides had spent the night camping before setting out at daybreak on Tuesday for the crater of the Mayon volcano when a sudden explosion of rocks, ash and plumes of smokes jolted the mountain, guide Kenneth Jesalva told ABS-CBN TV.

He said rocks "as big as a living room" rained down, killing and injuring members of his group, some of whom were in critical condition. Jesalva said he rushed back to the base camp at 914 metres (3,000ft) to call for help.

Among the dead were three Germans and their Filipino guide, said the Albay provincial governor, Joey Salceda. He added that everyone on the mountain had been accounted for at midday, except for a foreigner who was presumed dead.

Eight people were injured, and the others were being brought down the mountain, Salceda said.

Ash clouds have cleared over the volcano, which was quiet later in the morning.

"The injured are all foreigners … They cannot walk. If you can imagine, the boulders there are as big as cars. Some of them slid and rolled down. We will rappel the rescue team, and we will rappel them up again," he said from Legazpi, the provincial capital.

An Austrian mountaineer and two Spaniards were rescued with small bruises, he said.

Tuesday's eruption was normal for the Mayon, according to Renato Solidum, the head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

The 2,460-metre-high mountain about 212 miles (340km) south-east of Manila has erupted about 40 times during the last 400 years.

In 2010, thousands of residents moved to temporary shelters when the volcano ejected ash up to five miles (8km) from the crater.

Solidum said no alert was raised after the latest eruption and no evacuation was planned.

Climbers are not allowed when an alert is up, and the recent calm may have encouraged this week's trek. However, Solidum said that even with no alert raised, the immediate zone around the volcano was supposed to be a no-go area because of the risk of a sudden eruption.

Salceda said he would enforce a ban on climbers.

Despite the risks, Mayon and its near-perfect cone is a favourite spot for volcano watchers. Most enjoy the occasional night-time spectacle of the rim lit by flowing lava, viewing from the safety of hotels in Legazpi.

Glowing red arcs invisible to the naked eye have now been detected high above most of Europe using advanced cameras pointed at the sky.

When streams of high-energy, charged particles come rushing from the sun to batter Earth, they cause what are called geomagnetic storms. These events are disruptions in the magnetosphere, the part of Earth’s atmosphere dominated by the planet’s magnetic field. The most dramatic effects of these storms are giant, bright auroras in Earth’s polar regions, but the tempests result in other striking consequences as well, such as faintly glowing red arcs high up in the ionosphere. This is the electrically charged part of Earth’s atmosphere, stretching from about 50 to 370 miles (85 to 600 kilometers) above the Earth.

The arcs give off a very specific wavelength of red light, but are too faint to see with the naked eye. They appear at lower latitudes, unlike auroras, which typically occur over higher latitudes.

Scientists had thought there was too much light pollution over Europe for the dim, red arcs to be visible. But now, the new All-Sky Imaging Air-Glow Observatory (ASIAGO), located in northern Italy, is using cameras with highly sensitive sensors and a fish-eye lens to observe these red arcs and faint auroral activity over most of the continent. An international team of scientists watched the sky with the observatory during a geomagnetic storm that struck Earth in 2011. After comparing their observations with satellite- and ground-based observations, the researchers found that red arcs could reach all the way down to Europe, stretching from Ireland in the west to Belarus in the east.

The fact that scientists can now see these arcs over Europe means that, in combination with similar data from the Americas and the Pacific Ocean, researchers can now see how long the arcs stretch across vast distances over the planet “and thus how long it takes the magnetosphere to be drained of its storm-time energy,” researcher Michael Mendillo, a space physicist at Boston University, told OurAmazingPlanet. (Red arcs happen when oxygen atoms in the ionosphere emit light, after being excited by electrons heated at greater heights in Earth’s magnetosphere.)

Such data could in turn help scientists analyze the effects of space activity on radio communications in real time and support projects aiming to model space weather, researchers added.

The scientists detailed their findings online Feb. 25 in the journal Space Weather.

Extreme videographer James Reynolds traveled to Paluweh volcano in eastern Indonesia in late February. Battling foul rainy season weather, he and his party managed to climb to the top of the volcano, where they were afforded less than an hour of clear weather to shoot the lava dome. James says that the whole island was being shaken by hundreds of strong earthquakes as magma within the volcano forces its way to the surface. These earthquakes also caused avalanches on the sides of the volcano as James filmed.
